Questions & answers

Everything about logging in, payouts and your statistics.

Logging in

How do I log in?

Enter your email address on the login page. You'll get a link that is valid for 15 minutes and works once. After that you can add a passkey, so you can log in with your fingerprint, face or screen lock from then on.

What is a passkey?

A secure way to log in without a password. The key stays on your phone and only works after your fingerprint, face or PIN. New phone? Log in by email and add a new passkey.

I got an email about a new device. What now?

If it was you, you don't need to do anything. If not: go to Security, choose 'Log out on all devices' and email [email protected].

I lost my phone. What should I do?

Log in by email on another device. Under Security, choose 'Log out on all devices' and remove the passkey of your old phone. Also email [email protected] so we can keep an extra eye on your account.

Payouts

When can I pay out a tip?

7 days after it was given. In your first 60 days with Trip & Tip, it's 14 days. This lets us spot fraud with stolen cards in time. Your overview shows what is released on which day.

Why is a tip being reviewed?

Sometimes a payment looks unusual, for example many tips from the same card. Then we check it first. If everything is fine, it simply counts. We'll let you know.

How does automatic payout work?

Every 2 weeks we pay out your balance for free, if it's at least €100.00. You can switch it off in your overview; then the money stays put.

Can I pay out sooner?

Yes, and you choose the amount. It costs €1.00 up to €200.00 and €5.00 above that. You can do this 2 times a week, on top of the automatic payout. After costs, at least €1.00 must go to your bank.

Why is my balance sometimes paid out anyway?

Our payment provider Stripe requires money to be paid out within 90 days. When your oldest tip gets close to that, we send messages from day 75. On day 87 we pay out. If you had switched off automatic payout yourself, the usual costs apply and automatic payout is switched on afterwards. If it was on, it's free.

I want to change my bank account. How?

You do that in your Stripe account: the 'Open Stripe' button in your overview. Note: after a change we pay out nothing for 14 days, not even automatically. This protects you if someone else uses your phone. You'll also get an email. Wasn't it you? Email [email protected] straight away.

What is Stripe?

Stripe handles payments and payouts for Trip & Tip. Your bank details and identity are stored securely at Stripe. We only see the name of your bank and the last 4 digits of your account.

What does Trip & Tip cost me?

Trip & Tip charges 7% + €0.80 per tip. Your guest can choose to pay the €0.80. In your statistics, 'Earned' shows what's left for you after costs. Automatic payout is free; an extra payout costs €1.00 up to €200.00 and €5.00 above that.

Statistics

What do average and median mean?

The average is all tips added up, divided by their number. The median is the middle tip: half are higher, half are lower. One very large tip pulls the average up, but not the median.

How do you know where my tippers come from?

We look at the country of the card, not nationality. With iDEAL and some other payment methods we don't know the country; those are shown as 'Unknown'. We never see who the tipper is.

Your account

Can I change the tip amounts?

Yes. Under 'Tip page' you choose the three amounts your guests see as buttons, and which one is preselected. If you choose nothing, they see €12, €7 and €3. Entering their own amount is always possible.

How do I change my details?

Email [email protected]. We check the change and update it. This prevents misuse of your account.

What do you do with my data?

We use it to stay in touch with you, for your payouts and to identify you in case of irregular activity.

I have an idea or found a bug.

Great! Use 'Give feedback' in the menu or on your overview. We read everything.
