Japan Tokyo Hachiko
The sad but heart-warming story of a little dog.
Hachikō was the cute an loyal dog of Professor Ueno. Every evening, Hachikō came to the Shibuya Station to await Ueno’s return. On May 21, 1925, Ueno died at work and never returned. Nonetheless, Hachikō continued to come every evening to the station and waited in vain.
Hachikō is considered an example of loyalty and fidelity in mordern Japanese culture. His faithfulness is considered a spirit of family loyalty which all should strive to achieve.
Today, the statue of Hachikō is not only a popular meeting point, it is also famous on instagram. Don’t hesitate to take a selfie in front of the statue - or the line of people waiting for their selfie.
