Greece Crete Gorge of Mili
Gorgeous lazy walk
The Gorge of Mili is just 4km / 2.5 miles and takes approximately 2 hours. It is the perfect destination for a short walk on a sunny yet lazy afternoon in April. The “main entrance” is on the “Perivolias-Chromanastiriou Road” next to the tiny village of Myli. There’s a local bus from Rethymno.
The Gorge is a magical place. It’s not one of the long, dusty, cold Gorges you can find everywhere. This one is a lush oasis buzzing of bees and sprinkled with ponds and streams. From time to time, you can see the ruins of a Mills or an old chapel peaking throught the emerald leafs. It’s like a huge natural botanic garden.
It is an easy trail where the majestic trees are providing plenty of shadow - perfect for kids. Wear proper shoes and don’t forget the water. Pack some bread, feta and olives: there a plenty of beautiful spots for a picnic overlooking the idyllic path.
The Gorge leads you to the “Banana Cantina”, an artsy Taverna right out of a “Tim-Burton-Movie”. Here, you can have a snack or ask for a Taxi or directions the bus back to Rethymno.
